Animal Crossing Giant Trevally: How to catch Giant Trevally and find the pier location in New Horizons

Time to make even more fishing bait.

Giant Trevally are one of the rarer fishes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

You can catch Giant Trevally during a six month period and, unlike Golden Trouts, they can only be found in a specific location - the pier.

This guide contains everything you need to know about catching a Giant Trevally in New Horizons, including which months this fish decides to visit your island in.

On this page:

Where and when can I catch a Giant Trevally in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

Here is everything you need to know about the Giant Trevally in New Horizons, including its time - both month and day wise:

  • Giant Trevally months - May to October
  • Giant Trevally times - All day
  • Giant Trevally location - Pier
  • Giant Trevally selling price - 4,500 Bells

Coming soon is the huge Animal Crossing 2.0 update release date. Until then, if you're new to Animal Crossing, our New Horizons tips can help with the basics. From the off, there's fish and bugs to catch, flowers and fruit to grow with Leif selling seeds, villagers to add or remove and tools such as the new ladder and vaulting pole to collect. Once you have settled in, you'll want to be making as many Bells as possible, start collecting K.K. Slider songs and work on your island star rating, increase your HHA ranking, incorporate Feng Shui into your room design and acquiring kitchen furniture. You can also buy fake art from Redd, use the Dream Suite and island backup.

Where is the pier and how do you catch a Giant Trevally there?

Like the Tuna and Blue Marlin before it, Giant Trevally can only be caught off the pier in New Horizons. This is not the jetty where the airport is located on your island, but, instead, the small pier that is located on one of the beaches.

To make catching a Giant Trevally a little bit easier, make sure that you only fish for it at the end of the pier. This will ensure that you're not just catching the fish that can be found along the shoreline.

Make sure you fish on the pier.

Before you begin your Giant Trevally hunt, however, you're going to need to make a load of fish bait. An awful lot of fish bait.

To craft fish bait you need one manila clam, which can be found by digging patches of sand that spit water on the beach. When it comes to catching a Giant Trevally you're going to want at least 50 bags of fish bait and you'll probably have to make some more after using that too.

We recommend that you craft fish bait and attempt to catch a Giant Trevally in short sessions, rather than spending a whole day trying to catch one. This way it will prevent fishing from becoming boring and, if you keep going, you'll eventually have a Giant Trevally for your museum.

Giant Trevally can only be found in the waters surrounding your island between the months of May to October and can be caught at any time during the day.

Catching a Giant Trevally, like a Blue Marlin or Golden Trout, relies on a mixture of luck and resilience. (We're not kidding about the fish bait.)
