3DMark creators set up new studio

Original IP and great visuals promised.

Futuremark, the company behind PC graphics software 3DMark, has announced the formation of a new development studio.

"For years, our fans have been asking us when will we start making games," said Tero Sarkkinen, CEO of the newly established Futuremark Games Studio. "Very soon they are going to get it - and then some!"

According to Sarkkinen, FGS "is committed to developing original IP games with the highest quality game play combined with our established track record of creating blow-your-socks-off visuals".

Futuremark is best known for creating demos and benchmarks to show off the capabilities of PC platforms. FGS is promising to integrate the latest technologies into its engines and build "world class games" that deliver "stellar performance even on modest platforms right up to the most enthusiastic levels of performance hardware".

That's all they're saying for the moment, but we'll be paying a visit to the Futuremark Games Studio stall at GDC next month for further info.
