Amazon lets down some Xbox Series X customers with launch day delay

Power your dreams... back to sleep.

Amazon UK has delivered bad news to some of its customers expecting an Xbox Series X on their doorstep today.

Affected customers woke up to an email this morning apologising for a last-minute delay in dispatch, but a reassurance that consoles would now be sent out "within the next business day".

This is despite Amazon previously pledging pre-orders for delivery today, 10th November, the day Xbox Series X launches worldwide.

While many Amazon orders do seem to be arriving on time, Eurogamer has been forwarded this email by several affected readers.

We've contacted Amazon UK for an explanation.

The situation seems worse for some in the US, where Amazon has contacted a number of pre-order customers there with word they may have to wait much longer.

"At this time, we anticipate that you will receive your Xbox Series X by 12/31 or before," Amazon wrote in an email. (That's 31st December!)

Numerous mentions of this note were posted on Twitter overnight, while GameSpot said one of its own staff had been received this email for their own pre-order.

"We are making every effort to get it to you as soon as possible," Amazon's email to US customers concluded, "and apologise for any inconvenience."
