Blizzard announces digital BlizzCon for February 2021
Aims to "channel the spirit" of real-world event.
Blizzard will be holding a digital version of its BlizzCon showcase next February, following the cancellation of its 2020 event as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
A new post on the BlizzCon website confirms next year's digital event - which Blizzard has given the snappy title of BlizzConline - will run from 19th-20th February, and will aim to "channel the spirit of BlizzCon into the form of an online show".
To that end, Blizzard says it will be hosting a special Community Showcase as part of BlizzConline, encompassing a cosplay competition and exhibition, art contest, digital storytelling contest, talent spotlight and more, with submissions for each category now open.
Beyond that, Blizzard has offered little in the way of specifics regarding next year's event, explaining it "still [has] a lot of planning to do, and it'll be some time before we're ready to share more details". It does, however, seem reasonable to assume we'll get a more thorough look at the previously announced, and highly anticipated Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2.
BlizzConline will mark the first official BlizzCon event since November 2019; Blizzard made the "very difficult decision" to cancel this year's iteration of its annual live show back in May, citing "health and safety considerations" relating to COVID-19.
