Try Star Citizen for free with its latest Free Fly event

"You can also experience the dogfighting action of Arena Commander."

Star Citizen is running another free-to-play event for new players for most of September.

The taster is live from now until 23rd September, with the code SHOWDOWN2950 offering you access to Star Citizen Alpha 3.10 and all sixteen ships as part of the game's Ship Showdown event.

"You can also experience the dogfighting action of Arena Commander and the intense FPS action of Star Marine for the duration of the Free Fly event," promises the website (thanks, PC Gamer).

It was only in December that Matt reported that Star Citizen had raised more than $250m USD in its crowdfunding efforts, but developer Cloud Imperium Games added another $50m to that total in June.

Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games recently settled its lawsuit with Crytek over the alleged misuse of the latter's CryEngine. Crytek's lawsuit, which first came to light last December, argued its licence with Cloud Imperium only granted the Star Citizen developer the right to use CryEngine for one game. Since the agreement was made, however, development of Star Citizen has splintered off into two separate projects - Star Citizen and standalone single-player story title Squadron 42 - which Crytek believed contravened the terms of its licence with CIG.
