Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reveals Shadow Company, Season 5 release date

Red sky at night, Shepherd's delight.

I hope you're ready for the latest instalment of Warzone lore, as the Season 5 trailer for Modern Warfare is here - and I'm as confused about the story as ever.

The important thing to note is that a new group is set to land in Verdansk, a unit aligned with the Allegiance faction called Shadow Company, hoping to take matters into their own hands after the Armistice between the Allegiance and Coalition broke down. "Forged from the fires of in-fighting between the Coalition and the Allegiance, Shadow Company has a framework and agenda all of their own," the blog post explains. "Ostensibly Allegiance Operators who have grown impatient with Coalition progress under the command of Captain Price, Shadow Company is a splinter group formed without compromise, ready to take the war directly to Mr. Z and into Verdansk and deal with terrorist threats directly."

Anyway, three new operators are being introduced as part of this Shadow Company theme, including Rozlin "Roze" Helms, Velikan, and company leader Marcus "Lerch" Ortega.

If Shadow Company sounds familiar, that's because it was the unit of private military contractors under the command of General Shepherd from Modern Warfare 2. Ortega appears to be in charge right now, but perhaps it's possible we could see Shepherd turn up at some point in future - giving anyone with a Ghost skin cause to be nervous.

In other news, the trailer focuses on Stadium, the nuclear bomb previously discovered inside one of Warzone's bunkers, and a lot of stuff that's on fire. Thanks to the many teasers sent by Activision to influencers, players think it's likely we'll see the nuke explode this season, along with Stadium opening up - and the arrival of an Apex Legends-style train.

As for new weapons, players have spotted that the new operators appear to be carrying the AN94, an assault rifle users previously found in the files through datamining. An official screenshot also appears to show a brief glimpse of the APC9 submachine gun, which has apparently been in the game files since launch.

The AN94 seems to be a Season 5 weapon! from r/modernwarfare

All in all, it sounds like there's a fair bit set to happen in Verdansk for Season 5 - and you won't have to wait much longer, as it officially releases on 5th August.
