Ghost of Tsushima physical sales beat last year's Days Gone

PlayStation and Nintendo exclusives Ghost of Tsushima and Paper Mario: The Origami King have both sold well on their launch in the UK - though PlayStation's exclusive shifted four times the physical copies of Nintendo's own title.

Both games arrived in the UK last Friday. Neither troubled their respective platform's biggest launches for the year - The Last of Us: Part 2 (2020's biggest game so far) and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, respectively.

But there's plenty to celebrate for each game. As a new IP launch, Ghosts sold slightly more physical copies than PlayStation's Days Gone did last year (thanks, GamesIndustry.biz).

As PlayStation's final PS4 exclusive, it's a good send-off for the console before the launch of PS5. Chris Tapsell deemed it "a likeable, if clunky Hollywood blockbuster" in Eurogamer's Ghost of Tsushima review.

Meanwhile, Paper Mario: The Origami King sales were the best of the series, just beating lacklustre Wii edition Super Paper Mario and more than the last two entries on Wii U and 3DS combined.

I wrote it was a "a heartfelt creation that doesn't quite stand up" in Eurogamer's Paper Mario: The Origami King review. With Paper Mario released, Nintendo now has no first-party games with a firm release date on its schedule.
