15m people have now played Sea of Thieves

Up by 5m since January.

Sea of Thieves has welcomed a further five million people aboard since this January, making for an all-time player count of 15 million.

2020 has been a big year for the game - bigger than the whole of 2019, which in turn was bigger than its launch year in 2018.

Writing on the Xbox Wire blog, Sea of Thieves boss Joe Neate revealed that last month, June 2020, was the game's biggest month ever.

3.3 million players logged on over its 30 days, a number boosted by the game's launch on Steam. More than a million copies of the game have been sold on Steam since its launch there on 3rd June.

"On behalf of all of us at Rare, I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who's ever played Sea of Thieves for helping to get us this far," Neate concluded. "It's a game that we love making, and there's plenty more to come."

Rare will continue its work building on Sea of Thieves for the foreseeable future, while a second team at the studio puts together the intriguing-looking Everwild. It'd be nice to see some more of that at Xbox's next-gen event on Thursday!
