Sounds like there's a new version of Skate coming

But...

After years grinding out in the wilderness, plans are afoot to revive EA's mothballed Skate series - for mobile phones.

That's according to pro skater Jason Dill, who told The Nine Club podcast he had been approached to appear in the game (thanks, Wccftech).

"I got a call from the EA people about 10 months ago, and they said, 'Hey, we want to talk about the Skate game'. I said, that's fine. [They] said, basically, 'We want to do a mobile version of Skate 3.' I wrote back, and I said, 'What else?' She wrote back, 'No, that's it.'"

In response to that, it's fair to say Dill expressed the opinion of most Skate fans at this point.

"I wrote back, 'Hey, no big deal, but nobody wants your stupid mobile version of Skate 3. Make Skate fucking 4 already, cuz just, like, do it. Just make the game and participate again. You can't level it up to the same numbers you get on other games, you do it for a cultural thing that pays you back later.'"

What new features this version of Skate 3 might have, we'll have to wait and see - it doesn't sound like Dill stuck around to ask.

If you are still waiting for a new console skating game, well, there is some good news. As well as talking Skate, Dill also mentioned rival series Tony Hawk's Pro Skater - and gave us yet another confirmation that series is returning later this year.

In a detail noted by VG247, Dill admitted he had contributed to the new Tony Hawk game's soundtrack. This makes a third confirmation the series will return this year, following a previous slips from fellow skater Lizzie Armanto on the same podcast and punk band The Death Set, who posted to their Facebook about licensing songs to the unannounced game. NDA? What NDA? Here's hoping this entry is an improvement on the mess that was Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 when it launched.
