2K's workaround for Civ 6 Switch bug crashing games on brink of victory: declare war

"Its version of kicking the table over."

Civ 6 publisher 2K is investigating widespread reports the Nintendo Switch version of the strategy game is crashing just as players are about to win.

Whether you're about to score a cultural, science or religious victory, players are finding the game gives up and crashes instead. Just as they end their winning turn, the computer says no.

"That is its version of kicking the game table over," Civ fan Tigris_Morte wrote on reddit, in one of several threads documenting the issue, as well as 2K's subsequent customer support response (thanks, Nintendo Life).

Replying to one fan regarding the problem, 2K said it had notified the game's developers who were now working on a fix.

There's a suggested workaround, too - though somewhat hilariously it will require to you to declare war.

"Thank you for taking the time to contact 2K Support!" one representative told reddit user throwaway489er. "The development team has been notified of this issue and are currently working toward a solution. However, we do not have visibility on their progress here in customer support, and therefore don't have a timeline on when a fix will be implemented.

"A discovered known workaround is to declare war on the Civilization that is causing the crash right before you end your turn. This seems to alleviate the crashing in most instances. In order for you to know which Civilization is causing the crash, you'll have to pay attention to which Civ's turn it falls onto immediately before the crash happens. Once discovered, reload the save, declare war on that Civ and hit Next Turn. I hope this workaround helped out. If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let us know!"

So there we have it. Declare war, or wait. One day soon, you will be victorious again.
