Pokémon Sword and Shield Slumbering Weald - available Pokémon, items and trainers

Our complete walkthrough for Pokémon Sword and Shield.

The Slumbering Weald is one of the earliest places you'll visit in the game following on from Postwick and Hop's house in your quest through Pokémon Sword and Shield's main story.

Below, we'll cover any and all of the obtainable Pokémon, item locations, trainers and their squads that you might encounter in the area, as well as walking you through any key steps of the story along the way.

Note that this page has been split into two sections, mind: an initial section on your first, early-game visit, and a second spoiler filled section on your return much later on. We'll put plenty of spoiler warnings on the page - but beware!

For more like this, be it specific systems explainers or walkthrough pages on more locations, head back to our main Pokémon Sword and Shield walkthrough and guide hub.

Pokémon Sword and Shield: Slumbering Weald and foggy area

The first time you visit the Slumbering Weald, you'll be chasing after a Wooloo. There are a couple of early-game Pokémon to catch, but no other items to find. Head through the grass with your trusty new starter until you reach Hop, a little further ahead.

Eventually you'll find yourself running into some thick fog - which gets thicker and thicker as you go. Before long the fog totally whites out the area aroudn you - and you end up in a battle!

Some kind of strange creature appears, and you'll need to try and attack it - even though your attacks do nothing - three times to progress. We explain (with potential spoilers) what it is in our guide to the ??? Pokémon in Sword and Shield if you're keen to find out now. Otherwise, let the mystery keep you guessing for now, and wait for Leon to turn up and come to your aid!

Let's go! (And don't read any further on this page until you revisit it much later on, if you want to avoid spoilers!).

Pokémon Sword and Shield: Slumbering Weald revisited and what's in the deeper area in Slumbering Weald

Right, welcome back!

Visits to the Slumbering Weald bookend your journey through Pokémon Sword and Shield: one right at the start and one right at the end. This time, you're on the hunt for a legendary Pokémon that can help you take down Chairman Rose and stop the Darkest Day from happening all over again.

After picking up some Max Revives from Sonia outside your house, head into the woods again and this time continue on past that place where things got foggy before.

Full RestoreHidden: at fork in the road in long grass area
Mental HerbLeft at the fork and left again on the path
Misty SeedRight at the fork, then left to a dead end
Life OrbRight at the fork, then surf down/south and its on land.
ElixirHidden: left at the fork then hang right and cross the fallen tree over the water.
TM86 Phantom ForceLeft at the fork then hang right and cross the fallen tree over the water.
Smoke BallJust after the fallen tree, on near side of water
Rusted Sword / Rusted ShieldSword / Shield exclusive, in the deep part of Slumbering Weald

You'll encounter a fork in the path, where there's also a hidden item (a Full Restore) waiting for you too. If you head left and stay left, going north all the time, you'll go straight through with minimal fuss. If you hang right at that first fork, there's a single item to collect.

So, left at the first fork, and then you'll find another one. Hang left again to continue to your destination, or go right for a couple of small diversions that can reward you with some rare Pokémon and items. On the right there's a path that leads to an item and a dead end, and a path eastwards, over a fallen tree trunk, to the other side of the river.

Across the river there's a small landing with an item and another hidden one (an Elixir), and you can also surf down the river to another small landing with an item, a Life Orb, which is worth grabbing.

After that, go back to the far left of the path and continue north. At some point you'll find Hop and some more thick fog, and the two legendary dogs Zacian and Zamazenta appear! Further ahead Sonia will rock up too. Continue over the brodge into the fog, and you'll find a beautiful clearing.

There, at the old shrine, you'll find the old Sword and Shield just lying on the floor. Pick up the Rusty Sword (in Sword) or Rusty Shield (in Shield) and head back to Hammerlocke - talk to Hop and he'll fast travel you straight there!

That's everything here for now. Next up is the Energy Plant and Chairman Rose, who you'll find back in Hammerlocke's Gym Stadium. Otherwise, cycle back to our main Pokémon Sword and Shield walkthrough and guide hub for all the other pages we have like this.
