Borderlands 3 - True Vault Hunter Mode and Mayhem Mode explained, including Mayhem Mod list

Everything you need to know about both True Vault Hunter Mode and Mayhem Mode in Borderlands 3.

True Vault Hunter Mode and Mayhem Mode are new Playthrough Modes, which are both unlocked after you complete the main story-line of Borderlands 3.

True Vault Hunter Mode is the hardest difficulty level for Borderlands 3. If you want to play through the game in this mode, then you have to start right from the beginning with a new save file.

Mayhem Mode, however, is a selection of random modifiers that can be applied to your post-end Borderlands 3 save file. These modifications will make the enemies you face far more dangerous, while increasing your chances of finding rare loot.

Mayhem Mode is a game mode that you unlock after completing the main story-line of Borderlands 3.

Unlike True Vault Hunter Mode, Mayhem Mode affects your current save file. This means you don't have to start a new game to enjoy Mayhem Mode.

Mayhem Mode will make the Borderlands galaxy a lot more dangerous by giving new effects to both you and your enemies. This can be anything from an increase in enemy health to a higher fire rate.

The terminal consists of three different placeholders for the relic. Each placeholder corresponds to a level of Mayhem Mode difficulty.

The placeholder on the right is for Mayhem I, the one on the left is for Mayhem II and the holder in the middle is for Mayhem III.

Pick whichever Mayhem Mode is right for you. Though it's a good idea to start at Mayhem I and work your way up.

Once you've activated Mayhem Mode, you'll be able to discover which modifiers are being applied to your gameplay by opening the main map and dragging your cursor onto the white arrow, which symbolises your Vault Hunter.

This will open up a box containing all the Mayhem Mode modifiers and your current Mayhem Level that are currently activated.

This will include how much your Armor, Health and Shield have been increased by. It will also detail the percentage rise of the amount of XP, cash, Eridium and your chance of receiving rare loot.

Finally, this box will list the modifiers that are currently being applied to your enemies. This will help you plan out new strategies, especially if your planning on taking on some bosses while in Mayhem Mode.

When Mayhem Mode is activated a little red skull will appear beneath your current Level on the main game screen.
