Mortal Kombat 11 is famous for its fatalities - but there's another round-ender that sees your opponent explode in a shower of blood and bones: the quitality.
A rage quit visual effect has been in previous versions of NetherRealm's fighting game franchise, but the release of Mortal Kombat 11 has seen a boon in community-sharing of perfectly-timed quitalities online - and some of them look fantastic.
Quitalities trigger on-screen at the end of combos, so those that trigger then aren't particularly noteworthy, even if they do sometimes look cool. The remarkable quitalities, however, occur at just the right time so that they work with an existing move to create something unique. Since Mortal Kombat 11 came out in April, I've been collecting eye-catching quitalities, and thought I'd share some of the best.
In the clip below, Frost shoves her arm drills into Baraka's eyes until the perfectly-timed quitality pops.
I love this next one because the quitality triggers just after Liu Kang's kick to the chin krushing blow.
Here, the Baraka player gets a quitality at the end of a krushing blow. The result: a headbutt so powerful it causes poor Noob Saibot to explode.
In the below clip, Kitana gets a quitality right after showing mercy to Kung Lao. Oh well!
I've saved the best for last, though. Here, the quitality lines up perfectly with Geras' body slam, which makes it look like Gears slammed Nightwolf onto the quitality spike.
While previous Mortal Kombat games have had quitalities, NetherRealm added a variety of effects (spike, explosion etc) to the quitality for Mortal Kombat 11, which I think has led to more interesting results. The community has certainly had fun sharing the well-timed quitalities, and I expect that to continue for as long as Mortal Kombat 11 has legs.
