Would you be interested in a "single-player narrative-driven" The Division 2 spin-off?

"There's huge opportunity to tell some incredible stories."

The Division 2's creative director, Julian Gerighty, has asked fans of Ubisoft's third-person shooter what they think about an idea to base a single-player game within The Division's expansive universe.

The idea was floated by TT Games' level director, Tim Spencer, who tweeted (thanks, PC Gamer): "I love the idea of a single player narrative driven spin-off of The Division Game. Focusing on an agent trying to get home to their family after being sent to NYC, during the SHD blackout from the fall of DC. TLOU x Division."

"None of the stories have explored what a Division agent sacrifices, and what they go through mentally," Spencer added in a follow-up tweet. "When you think about it: it's a pretty dark/epic thing - there's huge opportunity to tell some incredible stories there.

"Sat here in a burrito restaurant, and all I want is a pad of post-it notes and a marker pen to write down all the epic stories our agent could have, in chapters, through their long journey home during the fall of society haunted by nightmares of what could have happened to their family, because they answered the call of the SHD, so weren't there to protect them during the fall," he concluded.

Intrigued? You're not alone. Sharing the tweet on his own feed, Gerighty's received hundreds of replies from fans chiefly in favour of the idea, prompting him to follow up with: "[A single player game is] apparently not something people are violently against".

When one fan opined they'd "love" to have an agent that "talks and has a story instead of an empty shell like in D1 and D2", Gerighty reminded the commenter that the reason The Division 2's agents are silent protagonists is because "that empty shell is supposed to be you".

The Division 2 is about to get a little bit meatier, courtesy of the game's first free episode, titled DC Outskirts: Expeditions, which comes to PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on 23rd July. The free episode - the first of three planned for Year 1 - unfolds beyond the confines of Washington's city streets, adds new missions, Expeditions, plus new weapons, gear, and more.
