Monster Hunter World Iceborne beta dates, start time, beta access and details explained

How to get playing Monster Hunter World Iceborne ahead of release thanks to a PS4-only beta.

The Monster Hunter World Iceborne beta gives you an early hands-on with the upcoming expansion, which releases in full on September 6th.

Exclusive to PS4 players, the Monster Hunter World Iceborne beta is playable without needing to own the base game - and offers several of the expansion's new beasts to fight against.

Here's everything we know so far on Monster Hunter World Iceborne beta - including access, start times, new features to sample and some beta rewards to take into the full release.

Monster Hunter World Iceborne beta dates, start time and access explained

There are two sets of Monster Hunter World Iceborne beta dates, both only on PS4, with access depending on whether you are a PS Plus subscriber or not:

  • Friday, June 21st to Monday, June 24th (PS Plus subscribers only)
  • Friday, June 28th to Monday, June 1st (all PS4 owners)

Meanwhile, Monster Hunter World Iceborne start times and end times are the same across all four of the above dates, which help keep things simple:

  • Europe: 12pm (CEST)
  • East Coast US: 6am (EDT)
  • West Coast US: 3am (PDT)

To get Monster Hunter World Iceborne access, all you need to do is download the beta client from the PlayStation Network store:

The client size is 6.1 GB, and remember you need to be a PlayStation Plus subscriber to access the first weekend's beta.

What's included in the Monster Hunter World Iceborne beta?

There's a fair amount to get to grips with in the Monster Hunter World Iceborne beta, with three quests, each with a different monster to hunt.

Monster Hunter World Iceborne beta monsters

  • Great Jagras (featured in the original game)
  • Banbaro (a new brute wyvern)
  • Tigrex (a flying wyvern returning previously in the series)

You can play the above quests solo or with other hunters over matchmaking, and can try out 14 weapons - all of which have new actions and combos, such as a Clutch Claw for the Slinger - as you go. There's also a training area to sample these weapons, too.

There's also the chance to try out the new 'View Mode', helping you take more freeform screenshots, and use the Raider Ride - Tailriders you can use to roam each location.

Monster Hunter World Iceborne beta rewards

For those that play the Monster Hunter World Iceborne beta, you'll be rewarded with special 'Commendation' item packs to take into the retail release, each with several useful consumables. Nothing to worry about missing out on if you can't play the beta - but are a nice to have if you do have the time.

If you are going after these item packs, make sure you use the same PSN account as the beta with the full game to receive them at launch.

Monster Hunter World Iceworld is available on PS4 and Xbox One on September 6th, with a PC version available sometime in "winter", according to Capcom.

Before the arrival of the new expansion is a list of Monster Hunter World Iceborne beta dates and details on Monster Hunter World Iceborne weapon changes and types. Until then, it's worth scrubbing up on the base game. As well as our Monster Hunter World tips, our Monster Hunter World walkthrough and guide explains how Assigned missions, Expeditions and Investigations work, which will see you hunt Anjanath, Zorah Magdaros, Diablos, Odogaron, as well as Elder Dragons Kushala Daora, Teostra, Vaal Hazah, Xeno'Jiiva and Kirin, as well as the recently added Behemoth. If you are starting out, we recommend learning how to join friends and Squads in multiplayer, plus how to capture monsters and mount monsters. There's plenty of optional stuff, too - such as Grimalkynes and Doodles, helping unlock Plunderblade and Gajalaka quests.
