Essential info on Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding.

Death Stranding preorder bonuses have surfaced, alongside a more detailed look at Kojima Productions' first game.

As with most Hideo Kojima games things have been characteristically mysterious, but now we at least have a handful of essentials, including the Death Stranding release date and the most recent Death Stranding trailer, which we've included below.

Note that the "gold" items listed above are all in-game items of course, and they come with the note that they "unlock via story progression", so it seems they may not all be available as soon as you get playing once it's out.

Death Stranding release date

The Death Stranding release date is Friday, 8th November 2019, which is quite a bit earlier than most had expected!

This was revealed in the release date trailer that arrived in late May 2019.

Death Stranding trailers and other details worth knowing

Proper gameplay details for Death Stranding have been pretty thin since its announcement at E3 2016, but the latest trailer in late May 2019 gave us a bit more to go on, at last.

Death Stranding release date trailer:

What can we glean from that? Well, we do at least know that:

  • There's combat, as well as just the peaceful countryside walking.
  • There's both melee combat in what seems to be the "real" world, and gunplay as the main character seems to head back in time to a strange version of the past.
  • Nicolas Winding-Refn, the director of the film Drive, is in it!
  • The baby in a vat seems to be used as some kind of connection-making, dimension-travelling device.
  • There are vehicles you can drive, including a cool kind of bike-cum-quadbike
  • There'll be some kind of connectivity with other players, as Kojima tweeted a captioned image that explained "the player's goal is to reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society... and in doing so, create new bonds or "Strands" with other players around the globe.
  • It looks completely weird and, therefore, great! (This is just our opinion but come on - look at it!)

It's still not exactly clear what Death Stranding is, then, even after that latest lengthy trailer. How exciting!
