Capcom: Devil May Cry 5 "successfully reinvigorated brand"

Hack and slash.

Devil May Cry 5 "successfully reinvigorated" the series, Capcom has said.

Capcom shipped 2m copies of the action game, it confirmed in a financial report. Shipped doesn't mean sales to customers, but Capcom stressed Devil May Cry 5, alongside Resident Evil 2, had "exceeded expectations".

Devil May Cry 5 is the first "mainline" entry in the series for over 10 years, and follows Ninja Theory's excellent but, according to Capcom, non-mainline DmC: Devil May Cry, which came out in 2013.

DmC sold 1.2m copies during its first year, which means Devil May Cry 5 is close to doubling that game's sales success just a few months after launch. I guess we'll be seeing a Devil May Cry 6, then!

Overall, Capcom saw "brisk" sales of its core titles. The wonderful Resident Evil 2 remake shipped 4m units, Capcom said. Sales of Capcom's best-selling game of all time, Monster Hunter World, continued to grow and have now broken the 12m mark.

All smiles at Capcom, then, as thoughts turn to the next generation of consoles.
