God of War leads BAFTA Game Awards nominations

With as many for Obra Dinn and Florence as RDR2.

PlayStation 4 exclusive God of War leads this year's British Academy Games Awards shortlist, with an impressive 10 nominations.

Santa Monica Studio's Norse-inspired Dad simulator is up for 10 gongs, including Best Game, Best Narrative, and Performer for Stargate SG-1's Christopher Judge, who plays Kratos.

There are six nominations for the critically-acclaimed Return of the Obra Dinn - from Papers, Please creator Lucas Pope. The Annapurna Interactive-published mobile game Florence is also up for six prizes, as is Rockstar's AAA cowboy sequel Red Dead Redemption 2.

Brilliant indie platformer Celeste is up for five prizes, while Nintendo Labo gets a nod in the Family and Innovation categories.

Those up for Performer alongside Judge include another three God of War roles: Danielle Bisutti as Freya, Sunny Suljic as Atreus, and the brilliant Jeremy Davies as The Stranger. Joining them are Roger Clark, who won at The Game Awards in December for his role as RDR2 character Arthur Morgan, and Melissanthi Mahut who absolutely bossed the role of Kassandra in Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

Nominations for the EE Mobile Game of The Year category, the only award determined by public vote include Brawl Stars, Clash Royale, Fortnite Mobile, Old School Runescape, Pokémon Go and Roblox. You can make your pick via EE's website.

This year's nods for Best British game include RDR2, Forza Horizon 4, Overcooked 2, 11-11: Memories Retold, Two Point Hospital and The Room: Old Sins.

The six titles up for the big Best Game prize are:

  • Assassin's Creed Odyssey
  • Astro Bot: Rescue Mission
  • Celeste
  • God of War
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Return of the Obra Dinn
