DayZ leaves Xbox Game Preview and gets full Xbox One release at end of March

Bohemian rhapsody.

Bohemia Interactive's long-in-the-works online zombie survival game, DayZ, finally leaves Xbox Game Preview and launches in its Version 1.0 guise on March 27th.

It's been a long road for DayZ, of course; it started life as a fan-made mod for Bohemia's Arma 2 in 2012, but was adopted as an official standalone project by the developer once its popularity soared (the mod gained over one million players in the first four months of release). DayZ entered early access in 2013, with original creator Dean Hall at the helm, but its protracted development, which saw Hall depart in 2014, meant the game didn't join Microsoft's early-access-style Xbox Game Preview programme until August last year.

Then, things started to happen quickly. DayZ left alpha and entered beta last November on PC, and received its 1.0 release on the platform a month later. At the time, Bohemia said it anticipated an Xbox One release in Q1 this year - and here we are now.

To celebrate DayZ's full Xbox One launch on March 27th, Bohemia has unveiled a new cinematic story trailer, which you can witness above. It's also offered early details on what Xbox One players can expect to see as the game transitions over to its Version 1.0 release, including improved rendering performance, optimised inventory performance, and more.

Previously, Bohemia suggested it would be aiming to launch a PS4 version of DayZ simultaneously alongside Xbox One's proper release. Currently, however, the developer has offered no additional word on Sony's platform.
