Pokémon Let's Go Viridian City and Viridian City Gym - available Pokémon, items and trainers

Our complete Pokémon Let's Go walkthrough and guide to your big adventure with Pikachu or Eevee.

Viridian City is the next stop on your journey, whilst the Viridian City Gym is something you'll tackle when you revisit the area much later on. Your first visit follows on from Route 1 in your quest through Pokémon Let's Go's main story.

Below, we'll cover any and all of the obtainable Pokémon, item locations, trainers and their squads that you might encounter in the area, as well as walking you through any key steps of the story along the way.

We've also opted to break out walkthrough pages down into sections, referring to each of your visits to a given location, seeing as you often backtrack or revisit various places in your quest to become Champion! Where applicable, we'll split our page into one section for each visit, and of course if there are any, clearly mark any spoilers, too!

For more like this, be it specific systems explainers or walkthrough pages on more locations, head back to our main Pokémon Let's Go walkthrough and guide hub.

Pokémon Let's Go: Viridian City on your first visit

As you first reach Viridian City from Route 1, you'll be relatively free to explore the town.

Further north, where you would normally be free to continue to Route 2, your path is blocked - by some rather recognisable faces for anyone familiar with Pokémon over the years. You won't be able to get past until delviering a parcel to Professor Oak, back in Pallet Town.

Speaking of which, to pick up the parcel talk to the Poké Mart Clerk, in the apron, to get the parcel itself and the objective of delivering it to Professor Oak back south.

The town's Gym Leader is unkown, and away for now, so all you can do is either roam around town - the Trainer School has plenty of tips if you want to pay it a quick visit - or you can head west out of town to the optional Route 22, which has some different wild Pokémon and a couple of useful items to grab if you like.

So, to progress, head south back through Route 1 and down to Pallet Town to deliver Oak's package. Once you've done that, you can head back up again and progress on, where those people blocking your path were (they'll be gone by the time you return), and on to your next step, Route 2.

There are major spoilers in the section below!

Pokémon Let's Go: Viridian City Gym on your return

Your next full return to Viridian City - barring that early game one where you can just pass straight through after delivering Oak's Package - will be right towards the latter end of the game.

A final warning, spoilers for the late part of the game are below!

When you arrive in town after defeating the Cinnabar Island Gym Leader, it's time to tackle the mysteriously absent-until-now Viridian City Gym.

Head over to it and you'll find your friendly Rival there already waiting, but they're pretty stumped by how to enter. Select 'Professor Oak' from the dialogue options and quickly talk to him in Pallet Town. When you come back here, the Gym will be open. Head inside and, guess what, it's time for another travellator puzzle!

Here are our directions:

  • Left doesn't get you very far, so go up and right on the single travellator pad, and battle Ace Trainer Samuel
  • Head left from Ace Trainer Samuel, to go straight into another battle, this time with Tamer Cole
  • The only way is up from Tamer Cole, into the next battle, with Ace Trainer Kelly
  • Head right from her, around the top and down to the right, straight into Ace Trainer Yuji
  • Pick up a Revive next to him - a rare case of there being a loose item in a Gym! - and then take the pad left to start again.
  • Now you've taken out some trainers for practice, head left and walk up from the first yellow stop pad, and onto the blue travellators just above you.
  • They'll whizz you into the centre of the room for two more battles
  • Defeat them and head up out the top, to the final battle with the Gym Leader...

Once you've completed your eigth and final Gym, and the intriguing final cutscene with the Gym Leader inside, you'll be met by Blue. He informs you that he's going to take on the role of Gym Leader there now that you've vanquished the previous one. The only thing that's left for you on your quest to becoming a Pokémon Champion is the Elite Four - but to get there, you need to go through one last challenging route.

Head west to Route 22, where the part unlocked by your Gym badges actually has some interesting Pokémon and items, and then onwards to Victory Road, beyond, for the next steps in your quest, or cycle back to our main Pokémon Let's Go walkthrough and guide hub for all the other pages we have like this.
