Entertainment company Skybound has revealed that work has resumed on Telltale Games' previously suspended final season of The Walking Dead, and that release dates for the two remaining episodes will be announced soon.

Work on the final season of The Walking Dead video game was halted when developer Telltale Games laid off the vast majority of its staff in September, in anticipation of the studio's closure. Since then, however, Skybound - a company founded by Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead comic series - has stepped in to complete the game.

"It's been a ton of work logistically and legally to get us to a place where we're able to roll up our sleeves and get to the actual work," Skybound said in a new statement. However, things are now firmly underway, and "many of the talented, passionate team members who originally worked on the game are resuming development efforts today!"

Since Telltale's closure, previous seasons of The Walking Dead have been unavailable from digital storefronts. However, Skybound noted that, following its recent arrangements, these will be restored for purchase as soon as possible. It did warn, though, that, "It's likely that previous seasons of the game may be unavailable to purchase for a few days as we transition".

Skybound also reassured existing owners of The Walking Dead's final season that they will not have to pay again for the two remaining episodes. Dates for the concluding instalments, it said, will be announced "soon" on the Skybound site.
