Diablo 3 Mystic tips - how to perform enchanting and Transmogrify items

How to unlock the Mystic, level her up, master the enchanting system, and even change the appearance of your items through Transmogrification.

The new enchanting system that was introduced with the PC's Reaper of Souls expansion is also included in the new console edition of Diablo 3. By paying a visit to the new Mystic NPC in the game, Myriam Jahzia, you'll be able to switch out a less desirable stat on an item of gear into one that you might find more useful. You can even change the appearance of an item using the new Transmogrification system.

How to unlock the Mystic

You'll unlock Myriam by completing the Act 5 quest called Souls of the Dead. When the quest is over, you'll be able to interact with her back at the Survivor's Enclave. Once unlocked, she'll have her own spot in every earlier Act.

Enchanting items in Diablo 3

It's important to note a few limitations of the enchanting system before taking a piece of equipment to Myriam.

  • Once you enchant an item, it becomes soulbound, and can no longer be traded with another character.
  • You can only choose one stat to swap out, and once you've selected the stat you want to replace, you can't change your mind.
  • There are limitations to what you can replace an undesirable stat with.

Once you've selected the stat you no longer wish to use, you will have to spend both money and crafting items to change it. After making the payment, you'll be presented with a series of replacements to choose from.

There are no guarantees that you'll get the stat you specifically want from the range of potential replacements, nor are you guaranteed to get a particularly powerful version of each stat. You can, however, keep re-rolling your options by spending increasingly higher amounts of gold, until you have your ideal enchantment.

As to what you should enchant into which slot, there are no fixed answers. Different characters, builds and sets of equipment require different enchants in order to perform optimally. We've included some pointers in our individual class guides, however, so you can get geared up for Torment difficulty nice and quickly.

How to Transmogrify items

The new Transmogrification system simply allows you to alter the cosmetic appearance of your armour and weapons, so that they resemble other items you've looted in the past. This is particularly useful if you like the appearance of a set of armour, but it's no long relevant to your character build or your level.

Every time you loot a new Legendary or Set item, it'll be added to your Transmogrification options menu. To change the appearance of your equipment, visit Myriam, select Transmogrify from the menu, select the item you want to change then browse through all the cosmetic options you've unlocked. You can complete the Transmogrification by paying a gold fee.
