Super Mario Odyssey's new Zombie Mario is the best Mario since Nipple Mario

Romero Bros.

Cast your mind back to the halcyon days of 2017, and you might recall a little something called Super Mario Odyssey. There was a lot to like in there, but one of its most delightful additions was Mario's dress-up closet, which has just gained a wonderfully ghoulish Zombie Mario outfit.

You might not have noticed, given the lack of fanfare around the whole thing, but Nintendo has been quietly expanding Super Mario Odyssey's outfit range, often at seasonally appropriate moments, since release. To date, new additions have included the likes of Conductor Mario, Satellaview Mario, Sunshine Mario, Baseball Mario, Racing Mario, and Knight Mario.

Now though, as Hallowe'en approaches, things have got just a little bit spooky in Super Mario Odyssey, with the arrival of the pallid, dead-eyed Zombie Mario - complete with an axe buried nonchalantly in his skull. What with Luigi's recent untimely demise, it's starting to seem like someone really has it in for the Mario Bros. over at Nintendo.

Also looks a bit like a weird Father Christmas if you squint.

There's a bit more to Super Mario Odyssey's latest update than a sickly demeanour, however. Nintendo has also seen fit to expand Odyssey's brilliant Snapshot Mode, introducing the new Tile, Kaleidoscope, and (really very striking) Manga filters. They're pretty spiffy!

All of this should be awaiting your arrival next time you fire up Super Mario Odyssey. And if you're a Switch owner hankering for a little bit more spookiness, don't forget that Splatoon 2's Splatoween Splatfest will be commencing this weekend too.
