Assassin's Creed Odyssey money and Drachmae explained

Money is useful for buying things, if you weren't aware, and so in Assassin's Creed Odyssey you'll want to have a decent supply of Drachmae so that you can... buy things.

A little less obviously than that, the main use you're actually going to have for your cash in Odyssey is upgrading your ship, which is the most expensive consistent outgoing that we've found so far and something you'll need to continually keep on top of as you progress through the game.

There's also the blacksmith and upgrades in general, where you can improve your gear and add things like Engravings to them to grant various perks and bonuses. You can also spend it on the more hard-to-find resources in the game if you're struggling to track them down, which again contribute to your ability to keep stuff upgraded and up to snuff.

You get money for all kinds of things in the game, and because of that you'll probably have a pretty decent pile of Drachmae by the mid to late game just from going about your business, but as always there are certain methods to more reliably grinding coin if you're keep to gain an advantage early on - we cover those in the following section.

How to earn money and Drachmae fast in Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Here are some of the methods we've found to be most productive for quickly earning money, or Drachmae, in Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

Fast ways to earn money and get Drachmae quickly in Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Message Board Bounties and Contracts - Just as they are for grinding XP in Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Message Boards, that you can find in most decent-sized towns, are a great source of money, and really they're the main thing you need to think about if you're going to grind for cash. Head to the board in the town, interact with it and scroll through the list of bounties and contracts looking for one with a gold Drachma icon as one of the rewards. That gold means there's a high amount of money to be earned from completing it.

Rinsing and repeating these around the world is a quick and reliable way to grind out some solid income, and it's worth noting that these are stackable, too - so if you have multiple bounties or contracts active that ask you to kill a specific faction's soldiers, for instance, they'll obviously both be completed at once as you take those soldiers out.

Naval Combat and Naval contracts and bounties - Naval combat is another one that's good for earning XP (as you've probably noticed, the two often come at the same time), but splitting enemy ships in half specifically will also boost the amount of additional resources you earn for defeating them, which can then be used however you wish, saving you money from buying them in the first place. Do it by ramming the enemy ships when they're weakened.

Without bounties or contracts, ship combat is a lot less rewarding.

You can earn huge sums of money through combining ship combat with bounties and contracts. Keep an eye out for these in that Message Board list we mentioned above, and you can earn well into the tens of thousands of Drachmae in a short amount of time.

Killing Mercenaries - You can actually pick up bounties for doing this from those Message Boards, and that's where the real money comes in. Mercenaries will hunt you down over the course of the game and so you're going to run into them sooner or later, but you can also track them down yourself, and killing them in combat, combined with a decent bounty, can get you a solid amount of coin for your time, too.

Looting, selling and dismantling - Finally, there's the good old fashioned RPG method of opening every container you come across, and looting what's inside. You'll often find some generic tradeable goods that you can sell en masse at the local Blacksmith for a few thousand coins just by doing this, but there are also more noteworthy things, like weapons and gear, that you'll find along the way too.

You can earn a trickle of income from dismantling these, which gives you the resources as well, or you can sell them. Purple-coloured weapons will sell for a couple of thousand and blue ones for about a thousand Drachmae - seeing as you pick these up as a reward for all kinds of activities that you'll be doing naturally in-game, selling the ones you know you don't want to keep is an easy means of earning money reliably over time.
