Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 doesn't have a campaign, but it does have a 10-issue comic series that lets you learn more about the game's specialists.

Activision and Treyarch have released the first three issues of the new series for free on the Call of Duty website. They focus on Ruin, Prophet and Crash, three of the Black Ops 4 specialists. More will follow soon.

While Black Ops 4 doesn't have a traditional campaign, it has a number of solo missions that revolve around the specialists. We don't know how these will work, exactly, but they are linked to multiplayer.

"In multiplayer we're delivering a series of solo missions that can take you deeper into understanding each of the specialists you're going to play in multiplayer," Treyarch boss Dan Bunting told Eurogamer back in May 2018.

"It's going to give you backstory. It's going to give you some worldbuilding setup of, why do these characters exist? Who do they work for? What kind of operations do they run on? Just giving players a sense of connectedness to the world they're engaging in for so long, and tell the stories of those characters we just barely touched on in Black Ops 3, and introduce some new ones in the process as well. That series of missions will also help you refine your skillset with each of those characters, so you can go into multiplayer and feel a sense of mastery."

The comics, then, are our best bet for now when it comes to the Black Ops 4 story, if you can call it that. Here's one of the pages:

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 comes out on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 12th October.
