A remaster of Shenmue - the legendary adventure from Virtua Fighter and OutRun creator Yu Suzuki - and its sequel have finally arrived on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Whichever platform you're playing on - even if it's on the Dreamcast - our Shenmue walkthrough can help you solve every clue and find every location as Ryo Hazuki finds his father's killer in 80s Yokosuka.

We also have a series of Shenmue guides to help with the many side-activities, and a Shenmue tips page to help understand its many quirks.

Though there are multiple ways to complete a given objective - whether it's the search for a person, a strange object or a location - the game's story unfolds in a linear way and in the following order:

Yamanose and Sakuragaoka

There's so much more to Shenmue than hunting down who killed Ryo's father:

What's featured in the Shenmue I and II remaster?

The Shenmue I and II remaster is a pretty slight but well executed port, and what has been added is particularly welcome. Features include:

  • The ability to save at any time
  • English and Japanese voice options, which can be changed at any time in the menu
  • The camera movement mapped to the right analogue stick
  • PC controller support, and customisable mouse and keyboard support
  • Shenmue Trophies and Achievements
  • 1080p and 30 frames per second visuals, with widescreen support during gameplay
  • Shenmue II can accept the saves from the first game - carrying over items and move training progress - and features Xbox enhancements including the camera mode

If you want a more detailed assessment, it's worth reading Digital Foundry's analysis of each remaster, describing it as a "superb rendition":

We also have a list of Shenmue tips to help if you want some aid without specific spoilers.
