Destiny 2 Solstice of Heroes - Elemental Orbs, Solstice armour upgrades explained

How to get Elemental Orbs and upgrade armour in Destiny 2's Solstice of Heroes event

Destiny 2 Solstice of Heroes is the game's summer event before the arrival of the game's second year - and with it, the Forsaken expansion.

Solstice of Heroes offers you Solstice armour, which can be upgraded to the current Power level cap through a series of activities. You only have until the end of August, so better be quick!

Update (September 4th) - With the end of the Moments of Triumph, this armour is no longer available for new players or upgraded to Legendary. If you have upgraded to Legendary, you can still Masterwork each piece, even after the event. Elemental Orbs can also no longer be generated.

Destiny Solstice of Heroes armour upgrades explained

Throughout most of August, the Tower has been given a makeover, with the addition of new Solstice Eververse Engrams to redeem from Tess, and several statues in the middle of the social space.

Not only do these allow you to track your Moments of Triumph, but you can also grab your Solstice of Heroes armour.

First, visit the Tower and complete the remix of the 'Homecoming' mission. This allows you to then unlock Solstice armour. This is central to the event's activities.

Each piece has a series of objectives to upgrade it, with each stage increasing its Power Level. Starting at Scorched (200 Power level), there are an additional three stages - Rekindled (340 Power level), Resplendent (400 Power level) then a Masterworked version of that.

The steps also vary slightly by class, and if you're interested to see what you're getting into, the below tables can help. Note that Orbs and kills are often in the 100+ region - so there's a lot of work to do.

Destiny 2 Elemental Orbs explained

One of the additions to the Solstice of Heroes event is collecting Elemental Orbs. This is a requirement for many of the Solstice armour upgrades, as well as one of the Moments of Triumph upgrades.

Elemental Orbs are created by wearing entire set of Solstice armour and killing enemies with weapons or sub-class abilities with the corresponding type - Arc, Solar or Void. Though it appears you can mix and match weapon type and sub-class, the theory is aligning them - so your Energy, Power and sub-class are the same - will guarantee the Orbs you are looking for.

Here's what Void and Arc Elemental Orbs look like once dropped.

Yellow bar enemies tend to have higher drop rates, and it's said that Kinect will align with your sub-class choice, if you do happen to kill with that. You also need to physically run over the Orbs to add them to your total.

If you are collecting Orbs and the percentage isn't going up, remember to look at the specific requirements for that piece of armour, as some require Elemental Orbs in a specific activity (such as Strikes) or destination (like the EDZ).

The easiest way to tick these off the list is to concentrate on the other activities you have to complete, while making kills with that sub-class.

Of course, the community has already put together some good framing methods. If it's Strikes, one method by DirtyJerzElmo on reddit recommends reloading the start of this week's Nightfall, with plenty of yellow bar enemies to find on each attempt.

Otherwise, one of the best we've seen is by doing the Exodus Siege adventure on Nessus, then in the first step, you have to kill Scouts and collect their drops. Ignore the drops, and stand by a nearby cave, where the scouts will continue spawning, giving you easy Elemental Orbs.

Here's Ninja Pubs on YouTube with the method:

Of course, the above doesn't work if it's destination or activity specific, in which case try and align other challenges - or Moments of Triumph - with them to tick off multiple things at once.

The annual Moments of Triumph have arrived, alongside the return of Bad Juju. We've seen several other Exotics added to the game recently too - including Lumina and Truth. The start of this season saw the introduction of The Invitation quest steps, Imperials and a higher Destiny2 power level cap. As always, Forsaken activities are still worth checking out - including the Ascendant Challenge this week and Blind Well and Oracle Engine Offering activities.

Destiny Solstice of Heroes end date

Solstice of Heroes started on Tuesday, July 31st and ends on Tuesday, August 28th on the weekly reset at the following times:
