The best Amazon Prime Day gaming deals - consoles, games and hardware

The best gaming bargains in Amazon's annual sale

Well, that was Amazon Prime Day 2018. The summer sales festivities are now over - if you managed to grab some bargains, good on you - but if not, fear not - Black Friday 2018 is just around the corner, like it or not. We've already got our guide to the best Black Friday gaming deals up and running, ready to update with all the latest deals and discounts as and when they arrive, so be sure to bookmark that one.

If you're still scouting for deals, you may want to check out Amazon's current batch of 2TB Seagate external hard drive for £58.99 or a whole variety of deals still going over at Amazon US.

For the historically curious amongst you, you can find the rest of the Prime Day 2018 post below, along with examples of what there was up for grabs. You could even use these discounts as an example of what we might see this Black Friday.

Prime Day 2018

Proceedings opened on Monday lunchtime but there's still plenty of time to take advantage: you have until 23:59:59 today (Tuesday, 17th July) to grab some bargains in the UK and slightly longer if you're in the US, so if something catches your eye, you'll want to snap it up while you can. Some of the best deals we've found so far have included a stellar Nintendo Switch bundle with Mario Odyssey and a Pro Controller for £329.99, an Elgato Stream Deck for £94.95, Bose QuietComfort 25 headphones for £139.95, and over in the US, a range of external hard drives.

There's a lot to get through on this page, so we've highlighted the most interesting offers - hit the links below to jump to the relevant section, or keep on scrolling to find the other Prime Day deals on things like Amazon hardware, TVs and other exciting devices.

You can head over to the Prime Day 2018 hub page on Amazon to find their picks of deals as well as Amazon's new Prime Launches promotion - a selection of products available only for Prime members for a limited time.

For those of you in the US, you'll find the Amazon US Prime Day 2018 home page right here.

As you probably could tell from the name, Prime Day involves a lot of Amazon discounts exclusively available to Amazon Prime members. Fortunately, if you're not already a Prime member, you can get the discounts while using a 30-day free trial of the service - you can sign up for that with Amazon UK or Amazon US.

Prime Day 2018 Lightning Deals

Right here in this article, I'll be rounding up some of the best Prime Day offers from the realms of games, consoles and tech. As a lot of these will be 'Lightning Deals', which will be both time-limited stock-limited, meaning Amazon can sell out of the reduced price game before the allotted time is up. In order to make sure you get the thing you want, it's best to keep on your toes and get in as early as you can.

Lightning deals being what they are - time and stock limited - once they go live, they won't last long. This year's Prime Day is offering Lightning Deals in six-hour shifts, as long as stock holds out. I'll be covering them as they go live on Amazon so feel free to pop on over or follow us on Twitter if you want to get involved the minute the deals go live.

The Best Prime Day PS4 deals

Sony's console is still the top dog and we're months away from the salad days of Thanksgiving, so it seems unlikely that we'll get any outrageous PS4 bundle deals - although if you've been holding out for higher resolutions, there should be some PS4 Pro bundles getting a few pounds off, and you should be able to get a PSVR for a decent price if you want an affordable (ish) entrance to the world of virtual reality. In the main, expect solid discounts on accessories and controllers, and of course PS4 game deals - it's been long enough that Amazon can offer generous bargains on the big games of last year and some of the better ones of this year.

Best Xbox One Prime Day deals

As has been the case for a while, Xbox is number two in the market but the console is far from a number-two experience. There's a good range of software, the Games with Gold have been really rather good for months (although Sony is finally improving its offering) and the Xbox One X is genuinely the most powerful console out there. There are not really any games that show this off, alas, but the games you already have will look a lot nicer - and its underdog status makes it a dead cert that there will be some Xbox One X deals over the course of Prime Day. If you don't want to spend that much, you can surely get a cheap Xbox One S bundle, and Xbox One game deals will be numerous: Amazon will have plenty to shift anyway, and the Prime Day sale is the perfect time to shift them before the end of the year.

Best Nintendo Switch Prime Day deals

The Nintendo Switch has been out for over a year now and has had a cavalcade of games released in that time, including some which many feel are Nintendo's best efforts to date. As time has passed, we've seen precious few Nintendo Switch bundle deals but the few we have seen have been hard to resist. If you have managed to resist up until this point, or if you're already a proud Switch owner wanting to add a few games and some nice accessories to your collection, Prime Day is a good chance to do just that. Odds are good that Amazon Prime Day 2018 will be a good time for Nintendo Switch discounts.

The best Prime Day PC Gaming Deals

If you're a PC gamer, you're spoiled for choice when it comes to Prime Day updates - there's a robust selection of discounts on everything from power supplies to mouse mats. You might even save a few pounds on a graphics card - while the bitcoin surge hasn't quite died down entirely yet, demand has subsided to the point where there are actually some graphics card deals available, rather than just a "sold out" sign. The real find so far has been SSDs - there are some decent hard drive bargains to be had, and this is going to be your best shot at getting one this side of Black Friday.

When is Prime Day 2018?

Amazon Prime Day 2018 began Monday, July 16 at 12 PM (BST) / 3 PM (ET) and will last for 36 hours. So, yes, it's no longer just a day. It's steadily and inexorably expanding, like Black Friday has eaten the week before it, and surely the gap between the two will steadily shrink as Amazon grows. In the meantime, please rest assured that we'll bring all the best (and most relevant) deals straight to this page for your perusal.

In case you missed it already, you will need an Amazon Prime membership (found here in the UK, or here in the US) to take part in today's festivities, although if you don't fancy the commitment you can start up a free 30-day trial and still take advantage of the Prime Day sales, too.

Good luck and happy hunting to all. Be sure to check in with Jelly Deals for by-the-minute lightning deals coverage and a few carelessly strewn about puns.
