Nintendo has just shown off three special edition designs for its Nintendo 2DS XL handheld, themed around Animal Crossing, Minecraft and Mario Kart. They're some of the more elaborate ones we've seen to date.

The New Nintendo 2DS XL is rapidly becoming the default option if you want to access the 3DS' enormous game library and, like a lot of people, if you don't really care about stereoscopic 3D.

The Animal Crossing and Mario Kart 7 designs will launch on 19th July in Japan, while the Minecraft edition will launch a little later, on 2nd August.

Here in the UK Nintendo is yet to announce these special versions via press release or social media, but I just got an in-game notification about the Animal Crossing edition via the series' mobile game Pocket Camp. According to the app, it'll hold a 20th July release date and come with Animal Crossing New Leaf already installed.
