Fortnite Season 4 has arrived, introducing new rankings and a set of rewards for players to unlock over the coming months.

For those who have been playing in recent months, it operates similar to the previous Battle Pass, giving you access to new skins, emotes and XP multipliers - provided you then put in the time and effort to then unlock them, of course.

If you're just getting started, our Fortnite Battle Royale tips and tricks can provide some helpful hints.

What is Fortnite Season 4? Additions explained

Every few months, Fortnite enters a new season. Seasons give you a new opportunity to unlock a variety of rewards - including new character and weapon skins, loading screens, emotes and emoticons, and even V-Bucks - by levelling up over the course of the season.

Fortnite reached the end of Season 3 on April 30th, and started a new one - Fortnite Season 4 - on Tuesday, May 1st.

With it came a number of changes and additions:

  • A new Battle Pass with new rewards, centered around a superhero theme
  • The arrival of a comet that has introduced many map changes, including new locations and tweaks to existing ones
  • Weekly Challenges starting over from Week 1, with those from Season 3 becoming obsolete
Fortnite Season 4 is centered around the arrival of a crashed comet, and superheroes.

The arrival of Season 4 also introduces a lot of tweaks and changes to Battle Royale. The official patch notes has these in granular detail, but highlights include:

  • Structures on the starting island (apart from the Battle Bus) can be destroyed
  • Unless from below, damage to headshots are prioritised when other body parts - such as hands - are in the way
  • When spectating, damage numbers will appear
  • You can mark items as favourites in the Locker, and a new 'random' option can select one of these favourites when entering a match, to give you a surprise cosmetic loadout
  • Emote wheel is no longer limited to six items
  • When you auto run, an icon will appear
  • You can now play the game in 4:3 aspect ratio
  • The crossbow is currently removed from the game
  • On Fortnite mobile, holding the direction for three seconds allows you to turn on auto run, and there are 'repair building' and 'cycle weapon' buttons

Season 4 is scheduled to end on July 9th - which means the usual 10 weeks of Challenges come as part of your Battle Pass purchase, and 10 weeks to unlock all the rewards that are available.

Fortnite Seasons and Battle Pass cost explained

Like Season 3 before it, Season 4 offers an array of new rewards, most of which are locked behind Battle Pass ownership.

While you can unlock a select number of the above with a Free Pass, it's only with a Battle Pass that a second tier of elusive rewards are unlocked.

The Battle Pass is a premium item, costing 950 V-Bucks. You can buy a bundle of 1,000 V-Bucks for around Ł8 / $10, or earn V-Bucks in game through a variety of activities.

As soon as you purchase a Season 4 Battle Pass, you'll unlock the following:

These Challenges are introduced weekly, ranging from performing certain types of activities or finding hidden objects on the map, and completing them helps you rank up your Battle Pass easier, give you those rewards faster.

Both these Battle Pass Challenges and rewards can be unlocked at your leisure throughout the season, but once Season 5 begins, your progress resets, and a new set of rewards and rankings will begin.

Fortnite Season 4 Battle Pass rewards list

There are two types of rewards available - those with the Free Pass and those with the Battle Pass, so bear this in mind if you have an eye on rewards.

Reach tier 100 and you'll unlock the Omega outfit.

In summary, the Season 4 rewards include:

  • 1300 V-Bucks
  • 20 Sprays
  • Five outfits
  • Five Skyriding Trails
  • Five emotes
  • Four pickaxes
  • Three gliders
  • Two Back Blings
