Developer Uppercut Games has announced that its Arabian Nights-themed first-person rogue-lite City of Brass will launch on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on May 4th, following six months of Steam early access development.
City of Brass pits players against the titular metropolis' procedurally generated environs, fantastical denizens, and deadly traps - all in an effort to traverse 12 increasingly fraught stages and reach the city's mysterious centre before time runs out.
It's a game focussed around breathless fluidity and melee combat, arming players with a scimitar for classic enemy bopping, and a whip that's used to disarm opponents, drag them in close, or simply swing about the place. It's got a pretty spectacular art style too.
Version 1.0, says Uppercut, will add City of Brass' 13th and final level - the Innermost Chamber - as well as numerous bug fixes and balance changes. There's also Mixer integration for streaming, if you're into that sort of thing, enabling viewers to help or hinder a run by spawning health and loot, or enemies. Post-launch, there are plans for both free and paid updates.
When City of Brass launches on May 4th, it will be priced at $19.99 USD on all platforms - $5 USD less than it costs in early access. "Over time," explained Uppercut in its launch announcement post on Steam, "we got feedback from the community and other game developers about the market and price point people expect from this type of product, and that feedback was that our price point is a bit too high".
To make up for the price discrepancy, early access purchasers will receive an exclusive Founder's Cutlass and a digital copy of the City of Brass soundtrack at launch.
