Subsurface Circular Chapter 4: Human Resources - Fix the Comms Tek glitch, three letter code and Outer Line change puzzle solutions

How to complete Subsurface Circular's fourth chapter.

Subsurface Circular Chapter 4: Human Resource follows on from the completion of Chapter 3.

This page features a spoiler-free explainer on how to complete the chapter, including solutions for fixing the Comms Tek glitch and three letter code and Outer Line change puzzles.

If you're after help with other parts of the game, consult our Subsurface Circular walkthrough.

Where to change on the Outer Line

You have a new objective when starting this chapter - 'Rule the human element out of the equation'.

Start with Psychiatrist Psi One Zero One opposite you, and after running down the conversation until you can use focus points, select 'Human discontent' to unlock the 'Jobs in psychiatry' focal point.

But keep the conversation going, selecting the top options, until you also unlock 'Human on Tek violence'.

Back out, and chat to Childcare Rho Six Seven on the end. Run through the top options until it asks for directions to change on the Outer Line. Select the top one - 'No problem, Flag Arch is your best bet' - allowing you use focus points.

Select 'Human discontent' to unlock the 'HPC' focus point. Use the 'Jobs in psychiatry' focus point you learned from Psychiatrist Psi One Zero One - removing it in the process.

Fix the Comms Tek glitch with the three letter code

As you were doing this, another Tek, Comms Chi Thirteen, would have appeared, replacing the Psychiatrist. Talk and you'll find it talking in an unusual manner.

To solve this puzzle, you have to work out why its talking the way it is. If you want a clue, use Turing 23612, and notice how it is different when spoken back to you.

The answer is every response is one letter higher than it should be. If you chat to it, it'll say the three letter word DBU. Remove a letter and you get CAT. (Note this might be different for every player, but once you know how it works, you should now be able to work it out.)

Speak to Lover Phi Nineteen next and run down the options until you have to back out. Speak again, and it select the top options until discussion of a 'glitch' appears, followed by asking about a three letter code.

If this doesn't appear, chat to another Tek, and return until it does - you need one prior conversation before you can start this part.

You have to enter the letters based on what you got from the glitched out Comms Chi Thirteen - for us it was DBU, so one character lower is C, A and then T, for example.

Doing this will reset the Comms Tek's language processors, so back out and speak to it again. You'll then learn it still won't speak to you while the Lover Tek is present.

Go back to Lover Phi Nineteen and use the 'Turing 23612' focus point and select the top options. It'll get off at the next station.

Finished this chapter? Next up is Chapter 5: Detection - Changing moods for Detective Kappa puzzle solution

Speak to Comms Chi Thirteen one final time. Select all the first options until a new objective, 'Upload findings to management', appears. Use the 'HPC' focus point, which completes the 'Rule the human element out of the equation' objective.

Whenever you're ready, select 'I'm ready to upload by findings' then [upload file dump]. Select the top options until the chapter ends.
