How we decided Tetris Effect was Eurogamer's best game of 2018

And why Fortnite was almost considered on the latest Eurogamer Podcast.

By now, you might know that the stellar Tetris Effect is Eurogamer's 2018 Game of the Year.

Though we've done things slightly different this time - there was no pub debate to decide on a weighted list - we wanted some kind of discussion to round off the year.

Join a group of Eurogamer senior staff - reviews editor Martin Robinson, deputy editor Wesley Yin-Poole, guides editor Matthew Reynolds and features editor Christian Donlan - as they recap the year's biggest highlights, explain why Tetris Effect took the top spot, as well as delve into a lengthy discussion about why one other game - Fortnite - was under close consideration.

Eurogamer Podcast episodes release every other Thursday - starting back on January 10th with a preview of the year ahead - and if you subscribe to one of the following services, you'll get them automatically:

If you've missed out on recent Eurogamer Podcast episodes, we've covered Fallout 76, Pokémon Go and Let's Go, Red Dead Redemption 2, Black Ops 4 and Life is Strange 2.
