Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon - Route 1, Professor Kukui's Lab
A walkthrough for your first steps in Alola.
Route 1 and Professor Kukui's Lab are the next milestones on your journey, where you'll learn to catch your first Pokémon in the wild and become acquainted with the Rotom Dex for the first time, too.
Here on this page we'll explain all you need to know about the story and main events as they unfold here, and as with all pages of our walkthrough we'll highlight any and all trainers, items and wild Pokémon available to catch as well.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Route 1 - catch your first wild Pokémon and visit the Iki Town Festival
After waking up back home, your next task is to head back out onto Route 1 towards Iki Town again for the Festival.
In the lovely dusk glow that's lighting Route 1 you'll meet Kukui again, and he'll take you through at tutorial for catching Pokémon. Head on through Route 1 now, catching any Pokémon, battling a couple of trainers and collecting any items as you go, until you reach Iki Town again.

When you get there, you'll bump into the Ultra Recon Squad for the first time, who have some curious observations to make - then it's time for another battle with Hau, because it turns out the festival is all about battling!
When that's all done, you'll appear back home and well-rested again.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon - Professor Kukui's Lab
Back outside your house, Lillie will meet you and take you down to Kukui's Lab, just south along Route 1 (in fact this is technically Hau'oli Outskirts). Battle and collect your way through the long grass or take a shortcut via the ledge, and meet Kukui in the lab on the beach.
