Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon - Route 7, Wela Volcano Park, Captain Kiawe's Trial with Totem Marowak for Firium Z

A walkthrough for the second island of your Alolan Island Challenge.

Route 7, Wela Volcano Park and Captain Kiawe's Trial with Totem Marowak for Firium Z are the next stops on your way through Akala Island. You better be ready for some Fire-type Pokémon!

Here on this page we'll explain all you need to know about the story and main events as they unfold here, and as with all pages of our walkthrough we'll highlight any and all trainers, items and wild Pokémon available to catch as well.

For more general guides and other walkthrough pages like this meanwhile, head back to our main Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon walkthrough and guide hub.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Route 7

Route 7 is short and sweet - the main area is on the beachfront to the right, where you can make use of your recently-acquired ability to ride Lapras on water and even do a spot of fishing as you go.

If you don't already have a good Water-type Pokémon it's worth picking one up now. A Gyarados evolved from a Magikarp unfortunately won't be much use yet as it doesn't learn any Water-type moves for an age, but a Wishiwashi in School Form will come in handy!

TRAINERS POKEMON ITEMS

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Wela Volcano Park, Kiawe's Trial, Totem Marowak and Firium Z

Kiawe's Trial is, for the most part, much like the others. Wela Volcano Park is a nice place to catch some fairly rare fire-types, or the Ground-type Cubone which evolves into its Alola-specific form of Marowak, and holds a few useful items and trainers for levelling against.

Follow it up (and back down and round again for some more items, then back to top again...) and the female trial guide at the peak will heal your Pokémon for you.

For more on Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon, head to our main Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon walkthrough and guide hub, which includes guides to new Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Pokémon and Pokédex changes, the Festival Plaza, a list of Global Missions and rewards, an explainer on Pokémon Bank, a dedicated page on Pokémon Competitive Training, including IV Training, EVs and hidden stats, Breeding 6IV Pokémon explained and how to farm Bottle Caps fast for Hyper Training. What's more, we have pages on the Rockruff event for getting Dusk Form Lycanroc and, last but not least, a full Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon QR codes list for adding all Pokémon to your Pokédex.

Then, when you're ready, you can take on the Trial proper - a memory test! You'll need to spot the difference three times in a row to fight the Totem Pokémon - each time you get it wrong, you need to battle a Marowak and do it again. Here are the answers:

  1. Middle Marowak
  2. How they're smiling
  3. The Totem Marowak

After that you'll face the Totem Marowak, which calls in a Salazze to help it. Ground moves will do well here as well as Water!

Next up: Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon - Route 8, Lush Jungle, Captain Mallow's Trial, Totem Lurantis and Grassium Z

Defeat Kiawe and he'll award you with both Firium Z and the ability to call Charizard to your Ride Pager and, you guessed it... Fly! This works just like using Fly does in any previous gen, allowing you to instantly travel to any Pokémon Center or other designated point of interst on demand. Handy!
