Hitman developer IO Interactive is now an independent studio

And will retain full control of the Hitman IP.

IO Interactive has announced it has become a fully independent studio.

The Copenhagen-based team said it has agreed to a management buyout with owner Square Enix after the surprise decision to put the studio on sale last month, and will retain full rights to the Hitman IP in the process.

Here is IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak's statement in full:

Though the studio has already outlined Hitman's schedule for June, and even plans for two more seasons, between recent layoffs at IO Interactive and an announcement to ditch the episodic model for Hitman's first season, what form the game will take in future is unknown - but sounds like we'll be hearing about it very soon.
