UK retailer wants you to buy Nintendo Switch for £198.50 right now

Price protected 'til launch, but money taken upfront.

Nintendo has yet to set a Nintendo Switch launch date or announce a price. Regardless, you can put down £198.50 and reserve one today - and that's the maximum you'll pay.

UK online retailer GameSeek is offering the deal with a price guarantee, so if the console's RRP rises you will still pay the same amount: £198.50. UK shipping is also free.

But... there's a couple of big caveats.

First, the money will leave your account today - so that's £200 you won't have to spend on your Christmas shopping. We've also seen no guarantee you'll definitely get your console on launch day.

Another downside? This offer is almost certainly for the console's base model - so if Nintendo announces a premium version with extra storage as it did with Wii U then you'll be left without.

£198.50 sounds like a calculated amount. It's hard to see Nintendo selling its new console for any less and there has been at least one report that £200 is indeed the price being considered for Switch's basic model.

That report also suggested there would be another version of the console - indeed, with extra storage and a packed-in game - for £250.

We'll hopefully hear a launch date and price for the Switch when Nintendo holds its next announcement event in January.

For now, it's probably wise to hold off on splashing your cash. If the Switch does indeed arrive at £200, it's likely there will be plenty of other deals between now and launch day.
