This War of Mine receives free anniversary DLC

As a thank you for changing 11 bit Studios' life.

As a thank you for your studio-changing support, 11 bit Studios has released a chunk of new content for This War of Mine. It comes as part of an Anniversary Edition retail release of the game but will be given as free DLC on PC. It will come to PS4 and Xbox One in the future but at the moment 11 bit Studios will say no more than that.

Included in the Anniversary Edition content are three new locations to explore when the in-game sun goes down, as well as a whole new ending scenario, new civilians and new achievements. There are also some bug fixes, including one that stops Day 42 repeating.

Incidentally, there's a sale on 11 bit's digital retailer GamesRepublic that has This War of Mine Anniversary Edition significantly reduced to £3.74! There are a number of other Polish games heavily discounted too. The sale is in honour of Polish Independence Day.

"We released This War of Mine two years ago, and the response immediately turned our world as a studio upside down," 11 bit wrote on Steam. "That success has given our company amazing opportunities to grow and explore new projects, such as Frostpunk, and that's only possible because of the people who believed in This War of Mine in the first place."

This War of Mine was released in November 2014, and was one of our games of the year. In the game's daytime you build your base and decide how your stretched resources will be used; and at night you scavenge a dangerous, war-torn city for more. It's a game about civilians surviving a war, rather than soldiers fighting one, and is uniquely powerful and poignant because of it.

The game's success changed 11 bit's fortunes. A PS4 and Xbox One version of This War of Mine was released at the beginning of the year, and there's even a This War of Mine board game for 2017.

But perhaps more importantly, the income generated by TWOM allowed 11 bit to go even bigger with next game Frostpunk. It's in a "different league" to TWOM in terms of project scale, apparently.

We don't know much about Frostpunk yet. We know it's a serious game about humans surviving on a frozen world with steam-powered machinery, and we know it will involved strategy and difficult decisions, but that's more or less it. We expect to hear more in the new year.
