Xbox 360 indie star Bastion headed to Xbox One next month

Existing owners can nab it free until January.

Bastion, one of the finest indie games to launch on Xbox 360, will get a fresh release next month for Xbox One.

The new edition will launch on 12th December.

Anyone who owns Bastion on Xbox 360 will be able to upgrade for free until 1st January 2017.

The Xbox One version of Bastion won't be much different - which is fine. Happily, the Stranger's Dream DLC is included in the release as standard. The game's visuals have also been polished up to 1080p.

Originally launched back in 2011, the action role-playing game mixed isometric gameplay with a fantastic soundtrack and a memorable story told via narration.

Without spoiling anything, Bastion also heavily encouraged a second playthrough as well. Now may be the perfect time.

"Once the dust settles, you are still likely to want to return," Eurogamer's former editor Tom Bramwell wrote in 2011 Bastion review, "listening out for deeper meaning in Rucks' narration, storming through previously tough areas with a meatier arsenal, soaking up details you didn't linger on previously.

"Any concerns you had are likely to be drowned out in wistful hindsight by the dazzling visuals, artful commentary and moving score that made up your adventure."
