Battlefield 4 just got a huge makeover on console

Recommendation and improved squad features part of big overhaul.

Hooray! After three years Battlefield 4 is finally out of Early Access!

Okay that's not quite fair, but good god this game has changed so much since its slightly faltering early days and the latest tweak is the most substantial yet. An all-new UI has just landed on console that ties together Battlefield 4 and Battlefield 1 and generally has a massive tidy-up in the process. The slightly fiddly Battlelog has gone, and the new front-end that awaits you in Battlefield 4 does enough to convince you that you're playing a totally new game.

""Besides being a total visual overhaul, there are a number of changes to how you actually play with friends," DICE said in an official statement. "There are some updates to Squads that should make spawning on your buddies a much smoother experience. There are other changes as well, many of which you'll notice as you poke around. A big one is the inclusion of a recommendation engine that suggest maps, modes, and more."

The new UI's yet to roll out on PC. Booooooooo.

Go beyond that new UI and it's the same old Battlefield 4, which is no bad thing. I've still got a massive soft spot for the 2013 multiplayer shooter (let's not talk about the campaign), and there's still nothing quite like it on consoles. Battlefield 1 has some very big boots to fill when it comes out later this year.
