Editor's blog: Introducing Eurogamer's new Guides Editor

Here comes a new challenger!

I'm delighted to announce a new addition to the Eurogamer team today: Matthew Reynolds, who's joining us as Guides Editor.

Matthew replaces John Bedford, who's gone on to work full-time on his passion project - our sister site MetaBomb.

Matthew will be a familiar face to some of you from his work running Digital Spy's gaming coverage, but more recently he worked for Hello Games. He's a prolific contributor at GameFAQs, too.

Originally hailing from the Midlands, Matthew now lives in West London. He has a soft spot for JRPGs, loves Shenmue a bit too much, and enjoys playing Destiny (apologies in advance). You can follow him on Twitter at @Crazyreyn.

Matthew is extremely talented and a lovely chap. I know you'll make him feel very welcome.

Here's Matthew Reynolds, living dangerously on a massive road.

As Eurogamer editor Oli mentioned back in February, we're looking to expand on, improve and integrate guides more closely with the rest of what we do at Eurogamer. Matthew will play a crucial role in making that happen, but we're also in the process of hiring a Guides Writer to help.

It's worth reiterating Oli's note on the long-term plan for Eurogamer guides. While we're aware guides aren't always your favourite part of the site, we believe that if done right, they can not only be useful and informative, but bring new readers to the Eurogamer family.

And I'd like to reassure you that Eurogamer expanding its guides team doesn't come at the cost of any other area of the website. As Oli said earlier this year, guides bring in a lot of traffic, and a lot of new readers, which helps maintain a successful and 100 per cent independent site that can afford to cover games (and only games) in the depth and breadth you enjoy.

As always, if you have any feedback on the site, do let us know in the comments, via private message here on Eurogamer - my username is wyp100 - or by emailing me at: wes at eurogamer dot net.
