Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens gameplay shows off space dogfights, cover shooting

Han's-on footage.

You have probably played a Lego game or two before, and have a good idea how they work. But the upcoming Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens introduces a couple of new features to the franchise.

First up, there's cover shooting - perhaps not the first thing you'd associate with Lego titles. And then there's space dogfighting - take that, Star Wars Battlefront.

We've known about the addition of these previously, but the fresh footage below from IGN shows off both features in full.

The cover shooting mechanics can be seen in the game's adaptation of Force Awakens' early First Order village attack scene. Players take on the role of Poe Dameron as he picks off Stormtroopers.

Next up, there's a section in space where you get to control a TIE Fighter - from where Poe and Finn escape the Star Destroyer. There are other TIE Fighters to take on and lots of gun turrets to take out.
