Two Worlds 3 is officially happening, series developer Reality Pump Studios has announced.

The developer said it's in the concept stage and scheduled for development over the next three years.

In the meantime, Reality Pump hasn't given up on Two Worlds 2. Far from it. Despite being released over five years ago, the developer is giving its open-world RPG a major push with an all new engine update and story DLC.

Actually, it's getting two story expansions - Call of the Tenebrae and Shattered embrace - along with eight new multiplayer maps.

The first story DLC, Call of the Tenebrae, will arrive toward the end of Q2 2016. It will focus on the Hero's return to Antaloor where he must face an invasion of rat-like creatures called The Chosen.

Reality Pump boasted that its new engine update "allows for a much higher level of character and landscape detail, an HD-GUI, in addition to tons of in-game achievements, co-op multiplayer, and lots of new in-game features and upgrades."

The new update will also celebrate the game's arrival on Linux / SteamOS. You can find out more about Call of the Tenebrae on the game's official site.

We rather liked Two Worlds 2 back in the day. Eurogamer contributor Al Bickham said "Reality Pump clearly knows what makes an RPG tick" in his Two Worlds 2 review and wished for a triple-A sequel to sort out the series' rough edges.

"I sincerely hope it does well enough to fund a bigger-budget sequel. Because at this rate of improvement, Reality Pump could be snapping at the heels of the big RPG developers next time." Bickham said. Hopefully this will live up to that dream.
