I've been having a lot of fun in XCOM 2 over the past week. Granted I made fellow video producer Chris Bratt in character customisation and then immediately got him killed, but hey - it's war, there are casualties.

What I'm trying to say is that XCOM 2 is lovely - and its Advent soldiers are a similarly lovely bunch. Well, they're not, they're trying to kill you, but they're well designed. One thing I couldn't get away from during my opening hours with XCOM 2, however, was their strange alien dialect. What on earth are they yelling to one another on the battlefield? And why do they scream like Mr Blobby as they die?

Desperate to find any reason to use my English Literature and Language degree - any reason at all, at this point - I set out to try and unpick Advent's best barks and work out what they were saying once and for all. Click the video below and we'll have you speaking Sectoid in no time.

Johnny is one quarter of the Eurogamer video team - specifically the part that looks like it comes from East London. He loves pen and paper role playing games, his dog Watson, and pretty much any video game with a bit of grimdark to it. You are almost certainly pronouncing his surname incorrectly.
