EA seems disinterested in making a new Burnout game any time soon. But some of the people who helped create the wonderful racing series intend to fill the void.

Three Fields Entertainment was founded in 2014 by Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry, co-founders of Criterion Games, the racing studio behind Burnout.

Now, in a series of tweets, the developer has teased what it's up to. Its first game is a "multiplayer sports game" due out spring 2016.

After that comes out, Three Fields intends to make a driving game - and in tweets the studio teased it will be a spiritual successor to Burnout.

But which Burnout?

We haven't seen the release of a new main entry in the Burnout series since 2008's Burnout Paradise - the fifth Burnout. Three Fields' tweets suggest it's considering Burnout 2: Point of Impact, Burnout 3: Takedown (the best one) and Burnout Revenge as inspiration for its spiritual successor.

The "shiny red car" hashtag is a reference to the codename Criterion used while making the first Burnout game.

As for Criterion, it's developing a first-person racing game that incorporates multiple vehicles. The untitled game, announced at EA's E3 media briefing in 2014, incorporates ATVs, helicopters, boats, parachutes, planes, jet-skis and more.

We haven't heard much more about it since.
