Gearbox chief creative champion and Borderlands co-creator Mikey Neumann revealed who he would like to replace the character he played, beloved mechanic Scooter, after he met his demise in Tales from the Borderlands: Episode 4: Escape Plan Bravo.

Gortys and Rhys are voiced by The Last of Us stars Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker, yet they couldn't be more different in these roles.

At a crowd-influenced screening of Escape Plan Bravo attended by Eurogamer at PAX Prime, Neumann said that after Scooter's heroic departure he'd like adorable robot Gortys (voiced by The Last of Us' Ashley Johnson!) to fulfill Scooter's role of automotive expert in any possible future installments of the series.

"I'm speaking only on behalf of myself, not in any Gearbox capacity, but I started spitballing in a world where we imagine that we make more Borderlands," Neumann began. "And I was thinking 'oh god, who could take Scooter's place?' At first I was like, 'oh Ellie, probably.' But then I was like 'wouldn't it be really cool if it was Gortys?'"

This answer to a hypothetical question was met with rapturous applause from the audience.

Though Neumann was clear that this is only his personal conjecture, it's worth noting that Gearbox co-founder Randy Pitchford publicly announced the studio was hiring for the "next Borderlands" back in January.

It's also important to consider that Tales from the Borderlands is set after Borderlands 2, making it chronologically the latest entry in the series.

While sad to see Scooter go, Neumann was very pleased with Telltale's handling of the Borderlands license. "Telltale's the best goddamn storyteller in this industry," the creative champion championed.

What do you think, dear reader? Should Gortys replace Scooter's stint as the vehicular shopkeeper? Would Ellie be a better fit? Should they fight over it?
