Barkley 2's live-action trailer is an amazing spoof

"At last, the promise has been made."

Barkley 2, the crowdfunded sequel to free 2008 RPG, Barkley, Shut Up & Jam: Gaiden, has a new live-action trailer lampooning one of 2015's most scrutinised video game reveals.

While this comedy sequel's trailer doesn't contain any real gameplay, it seems like a more honest encapsulation of what the game is trying to do - spoof Japanese RPGs - than most actual gameplay trailers.

For the uninitiated, Barkley, Shut Up & Jam: Gaiden was a bats*** insane fan-made game lampooning RPGs and tacky 90s product placement and celebrity cameos. It followed the exploits of famed NBA player Charles Barkley in the year 2053 after an event called the Chaos Dunk triggered the apocalypse. Framed for performing such a devastating dunk, Barkley and his son Hoopz had to go into hiding from the Michael Jordan's militia, the B-Ball Removal Department, and clear the Barkley name.

This goofy game had such a strong cult following that this sequel made way more than its $35k Kickstarter goal with an ending tally of $120,335 back in 2012.

Certainly fans are eager to see the series continue with the ostentatiously named Barkley 2: The Magical Realms of Tír na nÓg: Escape from Necron 7 - Revenge of Cuchulainn: The Official Game of the Movie - Chapter 2 of the Hoopz Barkley SaGa. This time out the series will follow the exploits of a young amnesiac (almost certainly Hoopz) who must find wizened Cyberdawrf, a creature made entirely of basketballs, to understand his shadowy past and special destiny.

Barkley 2 was originally scheduled for a Q4 2013 release, which clearly didn't happen. But worry not, as developer Tales of Game's has assured us all that "the promise has been made" and noted on Twitter that the game will be at PAX's Indie Megabooth this weekend adorned by someone sporting the incredible CyberDwarf costume from this teaser.

While the trailer teases an 11th November 2023 release date, the developer has assured Kotaku that it will actually be out in early 2016.
