EA to release games on Thursdays now in the UK

Adjust your holiday accordingly.

Electronic Arts will start releasing its games on Thursdays in the UK rather than the industry standard Friday.

Star Wars: Battlefront is now due one day earlier in the UK. Rejoice!

"Until now, players in the UK have had to wait until Friday for new EA games to release, one day after the rest of Europe," the publisher said in its announcement. "We realised that players wanted to be able to get in the game the same time as their friends across Europe and we're happy to make this change."

As such, here are some newly revised release dates for upcoming titles:

  • EA Sports Madden NFL 16 - August 27
  • EA Sports FIFA 16 - September 24
  • Need for Speed - November 5
  • Star Wars Battlefront - November 19

Currently retail games arrive on Tuesdays in North America, making the UK jealous of those across the pond getting games three days prior. Now you can remain jealous, if only slightly less so.

This isn't the first time the UK has adjusted its release schedule to better accommodate the region. Recently Sony announced that PS Plus' monthly Instant Games Collection would arrive on Tuesdays instead of Wednesdays.

So why do games come out later in the week here than they do in North America? Our resident newshound Bertie investigated the answer to that age old question, and what can be done to change the status quo.

EA's new release schedule begs the question: will other publisher's follow suit?
