24 minutes of Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 gameplay

Worth a shot?

For a game that's all about shooting people in the head, Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 looks like a measured, cautious experience.

The 24-minute extended gameplay demo below sees a CI Games developer slowly creep towards their target: a Russian general who is stirring up trouble.

Sniper Ghost Warrior 3's story follows a US commando who is operating behind enemy lines. It's your job to tip the balance in NATO's favour while Russia is busy waging a proxy war and secretly enriching uranium. Those rascals.

Most of the game seems to be spent working out how to actually get to your target - skirting round guards after spotting them in first-person view with your drone, for example, or following a safe route through a mine-field.

The open world features advantageous sniping spots and safe houses that can be unlocked and revisited. There's also a workbench for crafting and upgrading the tools of your snipey trade.

Your drone can be upgraded to give you information on your environment, on nearby enemies and security cameras. You can then hack cameras - ala Watch Dogs - and control CCTV feeds, then use them to spy on enemy movements.

It's slow-paced and altogether more realistic look at life as a commando. Take a peek:
