Mario Kart 8's Animal Crossing DLC brought forward

April release date, alongside all-new difficulty mode.

Mario Kart 8's second batch of DLC has had its release date brought forward from May to later this April, with the Animal Crossing-themed content coming on the 23rd of this month.

New characters include Villager, Isabelle and Dry Bowser, alongside several new vehicles - with the City Tripper and Streetle being the first to be revealed - as well as the Crossing and Bell Cups.

Nintendo showed off the Animal Crossing themed track in its Direct tonight, and revealed the course will be available in four seasonal flavours, with winter, spring, summer and autumn variations.

New Amiibo support is also on the way, with 9 new costumes linked in to Nintendo's series of figurines inbound.

Finally, a new difficulty mode is coming alongside the new DLC on April 23rd for all players. 200cc mode ups the speed of Mario Kart 8, as well as the challenge, and introduces a new higher tier of karts to the series.

Mario Kart 8 was Eurogamer's Game of 2014, and its first slice of DLC went down rather well too.
